Dental Anesthesia
LOCAL ANESTHESIA FOR THE DENTAL HYGIENIST CONTINUING EDUCATION
The Local Anesthesia for Dental Hygienists in North Carolina course will provide dental hygienists who have been practicing dental hygiene under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist for a minimum of two years the opportunity to administer local anesthetic safely to patients. The course is designed to meet the 24-hour In-State training requirement outlined by the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. The sixteen hours of didactic information will be delivered through an online format and is comprised of pharmacology, physiology, equipment, block and infiltration techniques, legal issues, and medical emergencies including systemic complications and the eight clinical hours will take place in the CVCC Dental Hygiene Clinic. During the clinical component, participants must complete 12 block and 12 infiltration injections under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist who must certify the participant’s competency. This course involves online autodidacticism (self-directed learning), quizzes/exams for each online section, and hands-on clinical education/experience. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion to be submitted to the State Board.
